New Grand Prior of Scotland Appointed

The Grand Priory of Scotland, indeed one of the two founding Grand Priories of the United Grand Priories of the Hospitaller Order of St. Lazarus of Jerusalem, has a new Grand Prior. This most important jurisdiction of the Order boasted of having the first Supreme Grand Prior of the Order, HE Richard Comyns of Ludston GCLJ GCMLJ as its first Grand Prior. Comyns was then succeeded by the Chevalier Timothy Rice, who was appointed in his stead.

With its new appointed Grand Prior, the Grand Priory of Scotland will again have a Grand Officer of the Supreme Grand Priory leading it. In fact, the Grand Vicar of the Order, HE James de Balliol-Cavendish of Buittle GCLJ has been appointed to the position of Grand Prior of Scotland.

The Baron of Buittle is an Orthodox Dean and is very active in the field of philanthropy and chivalric projects and initiatives. He has worked closely with the Supreme Grand Prior of the Order, the Archduke of Austria in the Flame of Peace movement and is also active within the community of Buittle, which is an ecclesiastical and civil parish in Dumfries and Galloway, southwest Scotland, in the traditional county of Kirkcudbrightshire. It lies to the west of the Urr Water, between Dalbeattie and Castle Douglas, and extends from Haugh of Urr in the north to Almorness Point on the Solway Firth in the south. The main settlement is the small village of Palnackie.
