Son of Greek Cypriot appointed as New Grand Prior of England

The Grand Chancellor of the Order, HE the Chevalier Massimo J Ellul, flew to London in June of this year to personally appoint and congratulate the new Grand Prior Elect of England, the Chevalier Andrew Charalambous.
Andrew Lambrou Charalambous (born 1967) is a British businessman, former politician and award-winning social entrepreneur, philanthropist, environmentalist and environmental blogger. He was also a special constable, for 18 years from 1995, serving under the Metropolitan Police, City of London Police and Honourable Artillery Company. He made a career in business as a property developer and private landlord. Charalambous was reported to own a thousand properties. The Daily Telegraph newspaper poked fun at him for falling out with his bank for allegedly helping homeless people, by taking them off the streets of Covent Garden in London and putting them in his properties. Incidents such as these further project the inbuilt philanthropic and Hospitaller traits within Andrew's sound character.
The Supreme Grand Priory congratulates Confrere Andrew Charalambous on his appointment as the Grand Prior of one of the two oldest Grand Priories within the United Grand Priories. In fact the first Grand Prior of the Grand Priory of England was the past Grand Chancellor of the Order Fra John von Hoff who was instrumental, with HE Richard Comyns of Ludston, the then Grand Prior of Scotland, to constitute the United Grand Priories in the Church of St. Bartholomew the Great in Smithfield, London in 1995.
