The Order of St. Lazarus becomes a founding signatory of the Mediterranean Charter for Peace

The Hospitaller Order of Saint Lazarus of Jerusalem was one of the catalysts, together with other European and North African institutions and representatives of governments, who joined forces and created an international platform in favour of peace in the Mediterranean. The platform paid particular attention on how political and religious institutions can work hand in hand in order to ensure that the furthering of peace in such a sensitive region is not merely about words but more about actions. The officers of the St. Lazarus Foundation, together with officers from the Grand Priory of Sicily of the Order were thus very proud to have been part of the organising team responsible for the Mediterranean Conference for Peace and Dialogue in the Mediterranean. Representatives of the Order shared the floor with a number of eminent personalities from all the different Mediterranean countries, including politicians, diplomats, clerics, university professors and peace activists. History was made today by being one of the founding signatories of The Mediterranean Charter for Peace which was signed at the House of Parliament of Malta. A big well done must therefore go to the Hon Speaker of the House, Dr. Angelo Farrugia, who presided over this historic gathering.
